Getting started and how it works

How long does the whole process take from start to finish?

For most small business sites, the full process is usually a few weeks from kickoff to launch. The biggest factor is how quickly we get the basics (services, contact info, photos, brand details). We keep the process simple: kickoff, content + structure, design direction, build, final review, launch. No endless meetings, no confusing steps.

What happens after I sign up?

We book a kickoff call and ask a few simple questions about your business, what you want customers to do (call, book, request a quote), and what makes you different. Then we build your website and set up your web presence pieces (like Google Business and social media branding). You will get clear checkpoints to review, but we handle the heavy lifting.

What do you need from me to get started?

Usually: your business name and contact info, your main services or products, your service area, and any photos or logo you already have. If you do not have a logo or good photos yet, do not worry. We can still launch something clean and professional, and improve it over time.

Do I need to know anything technical?

No. You do not need to learn hosting, DNS, SEO tools, or website builders. We explain things in everyday language and handle the technical parts for you.

Do you work with Indigenous-owned businesses?

Yes. Indigenous-owned businesses receive two months free on any of our website subscription plans. Just tell us when you contact us and we will apply it. We keep the process simple and respectful.

Pricing and subscriptions

What plans do you offer?

We offer 3 subscription plans. The All-in-one worry-free plan is built for small and extra small businesses that want everything handled. The All-in-one growth and visibility plan is for small and growing businesses that want more pages, more Google Business follow-up, and more social media activity.

What is included in the All-in-one worry-free plan?

It includes design and development, hosting and domain name, Google Business setup, social media setup, one social post per week, 24/7 support, and lifetime updates while you are subscribed. It is designed to give you a complete online presence without the stress of managing it yourself.

What is included in the All-in-one growth and visibility plan?

It includes everything in the worry-free plan, plus more pages and a bigger push on visibility: more Google Business strategy and follow-up and more social media posting. It is built for businesses that want to grow and stay consistently active online.

Is there a minimum commitment?

Yes. All subscription plans require a 12-month commitment, whether you choose monthly or yearly billing. We absorb most of the full development cost upfront (strategy, custom design, development, setup, and launch), then spread that cost across the year instead of charging a large one-time project fee.

How do monthly and yearly billing work?

You can choose monthly billing or yearly billing. Yearly billing gives you a significant discount. In both cases, the subscription commitment is 12 months.

Can I cancel before the 12 months are done?

Yes. You can cancel at any time, but the full payment for the 12-month commitment remains due. This is because the majority of full development and onboarding costs are incurred at the beginning of the project.

Legal note about cancellation and consumer rights

This FAQ is general information, not legal advice. If you are signing up as a consumer (not for business purposes), Ontario’s Consumer Protection Act includes specific rules for certain types of agreements, including internet agreements, disclosure requirements, and cancellation rights in certain situations. We provide clear written terms and encourage you to review them carefully. If you have legal questions about your specific situation, you should speak with a qualified professional.

Websites and web development

Why do you not use WordPress, Wix, or Squarespace?

Builders and template platforms can be okay for hobby sites, but they often come with extra code, plugin issues, and performance limits. For small businesses, that usually turns into a slow site, frustrating edits, and messy SEO. We hand-build websites so they load faster, stay cleaner, and are easier to maintain long term. You end up with a site that feels more professional and works better on Google and on mobile.

Is a hand-built website really better than a template site?

Most of the time, yes. A hand-built site has less bloat, so it loads quicker. It is easier to control structure (headings, page layout, internal linking), which helps SEO. It is also easier to build accessibility into the foundation instead of fighting a template. And it tends to be more reliable over time because you are not depending on a pile of plugins and updates that can break things.

Will my website be fast and mobile-friendly?

Absolutely! We build with performance in mind from day one, especially on mobile. Fast sites are better for users and they usually convert better too. We also design responsively so your site looks right and works properly on phones, tablets, and desktops. We were the first in Canada to build mobile-optimized websites in 2011!

Do you build accessible websites?

Yes. Accessibility is part of our normal process, not a special add-on. We have real-world experience building for organizations where accessibility is a serious requirement (including public sector work). We aim for clear structure, readable content, keyboard-friendly navigation, and good contrast and semantics. All our websites are compliant with AODA the Ontarian Accessibility act, and we strictly follow the W3C guidelines.

Can you redesign my current website instead of starting from scratch?

No, sorry. It often takes more time to patch a poorly developed website than to build a fresh new one. If your current site has good content but looks outdated or performs poorly, we will rebuild it into a cleaner, faster, more modern and accessible version. We will keep what is useful and fix what is holding you back.

Web presence and local SEO

What do you mean by 'web presence'?

A website is only one piece. Your web presence is the full picture: your website, Google Business profile, Google Maps listing, reviews, and social media. If those pieces are inconsistent or neglected, customers lose trust and Google gets confused. We align everything so your business looks credible and easy to choose.

How does this help me get more local customers?

Local customers usually find you through Google search and Google Maps. We focus on the basics that actually move the needle: accurate business info, correct categories and services, clear service areas, strong on-page content, and a review strategy that is easy for customers. The goal is simple: when someone nearby searches, your business shows up and looks trustworthy.

Do you set up Google Business and Google Maps for me?

Yes. We help create or clean up your Google Business profile, improve the details, and make sure your business is presented properly. We also help you build a simple process to generate reviews (including QR codes), because reviews are a major trust signal for local buyers.

Is SEO part of the package?

Yes! The foundation is built in. We structure pages properly, write clear content, keep the site fast, and set up local signals that support visibility. That said, SEO is not a one-time switch. It is something that improves as your presence becomes stronger, your content grows, and your reviews build up.

SEO and search visibility

How long does SEO take to see its effects?

It depends. Some improvements (like fixing speed and structure) can help quickly, especially if your current site is slow or messy. But real SEO results often take weeks to months because Google needs time to recrawl, reassess, and compare you to competitors. For local businesses, reviews and a strong Google Business profile also play a big role, and those build over time.

What do you do for SEO exactly?

We focus on the things that actually matter: fast load times, clean page structure, clear headings, helpful service content, internal linking, and local keyword signals that match how people search in your area. We also make sure your business info is consistent across your website and Google Business, and we support review growth. We do not sell gimmicks. We build a real foundation and improve it over time.

Can you guarantee that my business will be number one on Google?

No, and you should be cautious of anyone who says they can. Rankings change constantly, and the top spots often include ads. What we can do is improve your odds by building a fast, well-structured site, strengthening your local presence, and helping you build trust signals like reviews.

Do I need Google Ads to rank well?

No. Ads can give you short-term visibility, but they do not replace a strong organic presence. The best results usually come from doing both properly: strong website + strong Google Business + good reviews, and then ads when you want to push a specific offer or season.

Support and maintenance

What does '24/7 support' mean?

It means you can reach out anytime if something is urgent and you cannot wait until the next business day. For normal requests (content updates, small changes), we handle them during regular working hours and keep you in the loop.

How do I request changes or updates?

You contact us with what you need: text changes, new photos, new services, new hours, anything like that. Most small updates are quick. We got your back and will do our best to process your request.

What kind of maintenance do you actually do?

We keep the site healthy: performance checks, monitoring, fixing small issues before they become big ones, and making sure your site stays stable and fast. We also help keep your content current so it does not look outdated to customers.

Do I keep my site if I cancel my subscription?

No. With the subscription, you are paying for an ongoing managed service: hosting, support, updates, and the system we use to build and maintain your site. If you cancel, the service ends and the site is taken down. Your business name, your domain, and your original content remain yours. If you want to keep a site long-term without a subscription, we can talk about a buyout option or a lump-sum pack but these will not include maintenance.

What happens to my data if I cancel?

When your subscription ends, we remove your data from our systems within a reasonable period and wish you the best moving forward. We do not keep your client data longer than necessary.

Legal note about data and privacy

This FAQ is general information, not legal advice. Your specific obligations may depend on your industry and how you collect information (for example, contact forms). If you have compliance requirements, tell us and we will build accordingly.

Add-ons and custom projects

What is the difference between subscriptions and lump-sum packs?

Subscriptions are ongoing. They include website building, web presence management, updates, support, and social posting based on the plan. Lump-sum packs are one-time builds. They are great if you want a website delivered and you prefer to handle updates and marketing yourself afterward. Packs do not include maintenance and updates.

Can I buy out of my subscription after the minimum term has passed?

Our subscriptions are based on a 12-month commitment. You can cancel at any time, but any remaining balance for that 12-month term remains payable.

Do you offer e-commerce sites under the subscription plan?

For full e-commerce (payments, shipping, product management), we usually recommend a Shopify build as a separate project because it is a different level of complexity and ongoing responsibility. If you only need a simple product showcase (no checkout), that can often be done under a subscription site. If you are not sure, tell us what you are selling and we will recommend the cleanest option.

What add-ons do you offer?

Add-ons can include:

  • extra pages
  • custom features
  • special design work
  • branding help
  • more social media posting
  • photo shoots for events
  • Google Ads management We keep add-ons optional so you only pay for what helps your business.
Who owns the work you produce (design, code, layout)?

All work created by Your Web Squad (design, layout, code, components, and our build system) remains our intellectual property. This is how we protect our methods and keep quality consistent. You own your business name, your domain, and the content you provide (text, logos you already own, photos you own). Under subscription, you are paying for a license to use the website as a managed service while you are subscribed. For lump-sum packs, you are paying for delivery of a website for your business, but our underlying reusable systems and methods still remain ours.
